The Cowboys triumphed over the injury-stricken Titans with a 24-12 victory at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Saturday night. Despite suffering consecutive losses to the Broncos and Warriors, Todd Payten’s team managed to recover after initially falling behind 8-0 just before half-time.
The Titans scored first when Alofiana Khan-Pereira completed a smooth right-side attack in the fourth minute, marking his fourth try of the season. Tanah Boyd’s conversion brought the score to 6-0. However, the Titans faced setbacks when fullback AJ Brimson and five-eighth Kieran Foran both left the field due to injuries.
Boyd’s penalty against Cowboys’ Tom Chester increased the Titans’ lead to 8-0, but the Cowboys finally scored in the 36th minute, closing the gap to 8-6 at halftime. The Cowboys gained momentum and the lead in the 45th minute, and Holmes’ 80-meter run to the tryline extended their lead to 18-8. Despite the Titans’ efforts, they could not capitalize on the Cowboys’ shot clock violation and ultimately lost the match.
Adding to the Cowboys’ impressive win was their ability to persevere with only one player on the bench due to injuries sustained by Murray Taulagi, Gehamat Shibasaki, and James Tamou. The Cowboys now have 13 wins in their last 16 games against the Titans.
