FNRL officially endorse inaugural Fijian Cup 9s

With a prize pool of over FJ$50,000, FNRL is proud to announce its official endorsement of the inaugural Fijian Cup Nines tournament scheduled for November 2022, featuring the top locally qualified clubs up against regional Clubs from New Zealand and Australia over two days at Sigatoka’s Lawaqa Park.

Above and beyond prize money though, is what is at the heart of the tournament. The Fijian Cup is changing the face of what sporting tournaments can look like, aiming to make a positive impact upon Fijian sport and the island’s economy.

FNRL Acting Chief Executive applauded Tourism HQ in building its sports program over the past 12 months. “We are confident about the prospects of international Nines football becoming an annual series as part of IRL’s multiyear calendar and the Fijian Cup is strategically important in presenting Nines as a niche commercial product. And for that we thank Richard, Luke and the great team at TourismHQ for their partnership to host the inaugural Fijian Cup 9s.” Natabe said.

TourismHQ Managing Director Richard Henry said “Open to international entry, The Fijian Cup Nines is an exciting new Rugby League Tournament which we intend to grow into a renowned annual fixture on the regional calendar and have Fiji on show for Visitors and viewers.

“We offer this world-class tournament as an all-inclusive holiday with flights, accommodation, entry and transfers; with the added encouragement for international players to bring their partners and children to enjoy their time in paradise”

There are planning discussions underway for match officials’ development and community outreach programs within the Sigatoka district to add to the event happenings, including local school training initiatives to ensure we imprint positive footprints for the Sport in Fiji.

The Fijian Cup is dedicated to supporting emerging Fijian talent, Local Club participation will be endorsed and administered by FNRL to ensure we provide some of Fiji’s best local talent another platform to play against international competition and hopefully discover the next generation of Superstars.

International Players and officials will be accommodated at the Shangri La Yanuca Island Resort, on the Coral Coast and will enjoy some sights, sounds before and after some scintillating Rugby league action of the abbreviated code.

With a Sponsored prized pool of more than FJD$50,000, development partnerships and outreach programs adding to the economic activity that the Fijian Cup Nines is going to bring to Sigatoka and Fiji, TourismHQ and FNRL are super excited to be a part of bringing together smiles, families and sporting friends BACK TO PARADISE!
